Research interests

My main research interests lie in early modern philosophy (especially Thomas Reid) and the philosophy of mind. In the former area, my recent research has centred around the Newtonian influence on Reid and Hume, and the intersection of Reid's theory of action and his epistemology in relation to the origin of the conception of power and the (apparent) spatial content of sensations. I edit the Thomas Reid section of PhilPapers.org.

Concerning the philosophy of mind, I am particularly interested in the relationships between agency, embodiment, and the possession of certain fundamental concepts, notably the concept of the self and those relating to the idea of an objective spatial reality.
