I am a Senior Lecturer and Health Psychologist appointed in both the School of Education (People, Place and Social Change Research Group) and School of Psychology.  I am a pluralist researcher but my starting point involves using a variety of qualitative techniques and recent innovations in the field such as photo-elicitation, to uncover and document the complex narratives associated with lived experiences. I am also researching in the field of open science in terms of its implications for research and teaching in qualitative methods. My interest in lived experiences range from older adult food insecurity, adjusting to chronic illness, resilience in later life, lifelong learning and wellbeing, and post-graduate adjustment to studying abroad.

Key areas of research interest

Health Psychology, social justice topics, food insecurity, dignity in food access, open science, big data, narrative medicine, learning and health, counselling skills, chronic pain, documenting illness, qualitative methodology, Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), the psychology of ageing, promoting wellbeing in later life, public engagement, visual arts and design, photo-elicitation.

Knowledge Exchange, Public Engagement and Impact. 

I regularly present and engage with a wide variety of non academic audiences through public engagement and knowledge exchange.  Recently I have participated at the ESRC Festival of Social Science in IKEA (2017), Glasgow Science Festival, and MOSS Fest (Middle of Scotland Science Festival) as organising knowledge exchange events such as the recent 'Healthy Ageing in Place' sold out conference (in partnership with our third sector partners) and older persons afternoon tea (Reid and Lido, 2019) - more is planned with the assistance of recent funding from The Glasgow KE Flexible Fund (Lido & Reid, 2019/20).

I am interested in supervising on themes that combine perspectives on psychology as it related to issues of learning, health, resilience, adaptation. I am also keen to work with students who are interested in applying qualitative or mixed methodology in their studies.  I also organise community events for our PGR students - such as 'walkabout' tours (see poster below!)
